On the basis of the instructions, trained physicians and therapists administer the Barthel Index. The patients are given a set amount of time, usually 20-30 minutes, to complete the tasks, and they must do so within that time frame. However, depending on the patients' abilities, the time may vary. The physician evaluates the patients' mobility while they conduct ADLs and assigns them a score based on their performance. They assign patients scores for each activity of daily living that they complete.
